Coaching Staff

 

Club coaches teach figure skating and learn to skate (CanSkate program) programs.  All our coaches are Skate Canada Certified and bring their own unique on and off-ice training, knowledge & experience to our skaters.

Meet the Coaches!

Elizabeth Roman

  • National level coach (Coaching Association of Canada)
    • Level 3 - Singles, (completing Level 4)
    • Level 3 - Ice Dance & Level 2 - Pairs
  • Over 40 years of coaching experience - all ages and abilities
  • Lead coach and creator of our NSSC group figure skating program
  • Skaters have achieved Gold test levels in Singles, Skills, Interpretive & Dance (Diamond level)
  • Coached skaters to Senior competitive tests - Singles & Novice competitive tests - Dance
  • Skaters have medaled at Regional, Provincial and National championships, BC Winter Games, Skate Canada Invitational, and Special Olympic World Games
  • Special Olympics trained competition coach- Head coach for multiple Provincial, National and World Games
  • Petro Canada Coaching Award of Excellence (2001 & 2017)
  • Skate Canada/BCYT Coaching Award of Excellence 2006
  • Committee experience in BC Region, Skate Canada LTAD & Skate Canada Special Olympics

Tannis Marshall

  • Provincial Coach trained and National Coach in training (Level 3)
  • Coaching with NSSC since 1997
  • Head CanSkate coach
  • Experience coaching STAR 1 to 10 men and women Freeskate
  • Experience coaching Ice Dance, Skills, Syncho and Interpretive
  • Evaluator for StarSkate competitors - Star 1 to 5
  • Volunteer coach with Special Olympics - Surrey
  • Recipient Skate Canada, BC/Yukon Section Frank Nowasad memorial Coaching award (2011)
  • Regional Coaching Committee 1997-2016 & Regional Development Leader

 

Rowena Lochhead

  • Regional Coach certified (Level 1)
  • Coached with NSSC since 2010
  • Competitive dance background
  • Specialize in dance movement in our off-ice programming
  • Focus on interpretive & choreography, Pre-Intro through Gold levels
  • Also coach adult competitors in Skate Canada & ISU competitions
  • Successfully completed all Diamond Dance tests

 

Margaret Nycholat

  • National Level Coach. MY BELIEF: Working together is Unity. Thinking together is Success.
  • Level 3 Certified in Singles (1 task left to complete Level 4)
  • Level 3 Certified in Dance
  • Level 2 Certified in Pairs
  • Certified CanPowerSkate Coach
  • Annie's Edge Clinic Conductor
  • Level 1-3 Clinic Conductor in Singles and Choreography
  • Past Technical Advisor/Provincial Coach for Alberta Section
  • International and National Level Competitor
  • Coach of International and National Skaters
  • Organized various clinics for both coaches and athletes in all disciplines
  • Volunteer - Section Coaches Representative and Guest Speaker for the National AGM for Choreography, Skating Skills, CanSkate, and Coaching Ethics conference discussions
